"One Hundred and One!" - Yes, it was a frolicking bunch of puppies that claimed the hearts of moviegoers in 1961 when this animated feature was released, and it's been delighting audiences ever since. The film had brave heroes, but equally wicked villains, particularly Cruella de Vil. She was just over-the-top evil. It was the first Disney movie I ever saw, so I'm especially fond of it. Animation fans will also note that this was the first Disney feature to use Xerography to create the outlines from the animator's drawings to create the production cels, as opposed to the time-honored method of hand-tracing with pen and ink. Two friends back in California are such well-known fans of this movie, that when they won an auction at a Disneyana convention, the auctioneer gavelled their winning bid with, "Sold to Pongo and Perdy!" to the delight of the entire ballroom. I'll never forget that.
