Disney's "Hercules" marked a return to light-hearted animation, following the more serious stories of "Pocahontas" and "Hunchback of Notre Dame". Hercules was funny and heartwarming, like the popular "Aladdin" and "The Lion King". In addition, Hercules featured the rock-gospel music of Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menkin, who revisited the genre he developed in composing the music for the 1980's remake of "Little Shop of Horrors" starring Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray.
