Did you know that Walt Disney had a private apartment above the firehouse in Disneyland? As a prize at an Annual Passholder Event in 1995, we won dinner in that apartment which has been preserved since Walt's passing in 1966. In 1955, 12 year-old Annette was personally selected by Walt Disney to be a Mouseketeer on "The Mickey Mouse Club" television program, and American boys began to swoon. She was a star of the show for 4 years, and was also cast in several Disney movies in that era like "Babes in Toyland" and "The Shaggy Dog". And when she'd outgrown her Disney roots, she played the ideal girlfriend to Frankie Avalon in several "Beach Blanket" movies. She had a respectable singing career for Disney, with many records that sold well to the bubble-gum audiences and fans of Disney movies, capped by her singing the title song for the 1965 film "The Monkey's Uncle" in which The Beach Boys sang back-up vocals.
Sadly, Annette announced in 1992 that she suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. She had stopped performing but had started to produce a line of collectible teddy bears and appeared at signing events in Disneyland and Walt Disney World for new releases. But her disease soon progressed to the point where she could no longer sign and in the late 1990's she stopped making public appearances altogether. She passed away in April, 2013. We obtained this autograph from Ms. Funicello directly by mail in the early 1990's.
