Did you know that Walt Disney had a private apartment above the firehouse in Disneyland? As a prize at an Annual Passholder Event in 1995, we won dinner in that apartment which has been preserved since Walt's passing in 1966. This grand Disney poster depicts Disney artist Phil Mendez' 1976 artwork based on the performing elephants from Dumbo and the nearly forgotten Disneyland Circus. Doesn't this thing just scream DISNEYLAND! at you? It harkens back to the early years of the park when Walt Disney was experimenting with new attractions that would keep people coming to The Magic Kingdom all year long, and not just for summer vacations.
This spectacular poster was signed by Mr. Mendez during a special event we attended in the Disney Gallery on the first day of its release in 1992. While its not a limited edition, the signing event was only about three hours, so there aren't many of these floating around out there in the collector community - maybe 200 or so at most. It's a fine example of concept art by the artists in Disney Imagineering, filled with great emotion and detail. I smile every time I see it. And you will, too, when it's on your wall.
