Lion King Premiere Program

The culmination of the renaissance of Disney animation, "The Lion King" was a blockbuster hit when it was released in the summer of 1994. Disney made special souvenir programs available in selected theaters across the US and Europe at that time. These 11x14" 30-page programs tell the story with gorgeous pictures of the characters. They sold for $10.00, and since it was the heyday of Disney collectibles, they were usually sold out in every theater across the country within an hour or so on the day of the premiere.

This particular theatrical program was very different from the other similar programs Disney had produced for other movies because it included an animation cel showing the entire cast sitting atop Pride Rock. A very special bonus was included was an onion skin and paper reproduction of the original drawing for the cel. The animation cel and drawing are so attractive that they have frequently been sold separately on eBay over the years, matted and framed and often selling for nearly $100.00.
