Did you know that Walt Disney had a private apartment above the firehouse in Disneyland? As a prize at an Annual Passholder Event in 1995, we won dinner in that apartment which has been preserved since Walt's passing in 1966. This cute Slinky Dog toy looks just like he did in the Toy Story movies. Slinky Dog has those big hush-puppy eyes, a springy tail, and a Slinky body. Can't you just hear the endearing drawl of the late, great character actor Jim Varney who was the voice of Woody's ol' pal Slink? Slinky Dog comes with a leash so you can pull him along behind you. Made by Poof/Slinky. Note: The box for Slinky is very thin cardboard and after 20 years, they show some creases and bends from handling and shipping. But we only sell unused Toy Story toys and you'll always receive the best box we have available at the time of your order.
I'm a stereotypical Baby Boomer, but I had never heard of Slinky Dog until I saw him in the original Disney Toy Story movie in 1995. Voiced by the inimitable Jim Varney of "Hey Vern" fame who sadly passed away on February 11, 2000. His comfy Southern drawl gave Slinky dog a special charm. Slinky dog was Woody's trusted friend and cheerleader in Andy's room. He's made by the nice folks at Poof-Slinky in Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania.
Slinky is a classic American Success Story. The inventor of the original Slinky toy is Richard James. James was a naval engineer and in 1945 when designing on a tool for the Navy, he had to work with steel springs he was making himself. As he worked on his project, he noticed how the spring steel coils would continue to bounce for a long time anytime they would fall on the floor. It amused him to watch these springs bounce and squirm, and it wasn't long before he knew there was the potential for a toy in front of him. The company and the toys have endured in American culture ever since.
