As a prize at an Annual Passholder Event in 1995, we won dinner in that apartment which has been preserved since Walt's passing in 1966. One of the funniest women in America, Whoopi Goldberg has an amazing body of work. Let's start with the 1985 blockbuster "The Color Purple", for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, and the 1990 smash "Ghost", for which she won the Academy Award. There was also her 1984 one-woman show on Broadway, "Whoopi Goldberg". She co-hosted several Comic Relief specials on HBO with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. Along the way, she's done dozens of other movies, and television programs. She was acclaimed for her role as Ma Rainey in the 2003 Broadway production of "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom". She's won an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, two Daytime Emmy Awards, a Grammy, three People's Choice Awards, and a Mark Twain Prize. Not too shabby for a black woman with a two-joke stage name, especially considering that I've glossed over so much of her work here.
